The beginning of 2026 was an exciting time for Indonesian horror film fans. Several Indonesian filmmakers presented new works that didn't rely solely on jump scares but also adapted local stories with a fresh approach. One title that caught the attention was Penunggu Rumah: Buto Ijo, a horror film inspired by the Timun Mas folk legend, with a modern twist and a dark, oppressive atmosphere. Depicting the figure of Buto Ijo, a familiar figure from childhood fairy tales, this film seeks to break that classic image. Rather than simply being a monster from a bedtime story, Buto Ijo is presented as a more realistic, mysterious, and meaningful symbol of terror. It's no wonder that from the moment its first trailer was released, the film immediately piqued audiences' curiosity. The Lost Lotteries is a new Thai comedy film that follows the adventures of five people to save their lottery papers from the hands of the mafia. The movie stars Sky Wongravee alongside Minnie Phatira. Here is the synopsis of The Lost Lotteries.
The Lost Lotteries focuses on the life of Tay (Sky Wongravee), a Thai student who lives in poverty with his mother. He feels like a loser because he never gets the things he wants, from chess championship trophies, love, to money. Tay's mother has been surviving by selling lottery papers in Bangkok. However, an incident made her no longer able to work like that and Tay ended up selling lottery papers. Trouble ensues when Tay and her mother encounter debt collectors.
Tay's family's poverty led the debt collector to take away the box of lotto papers that were about to be sold. Not stopping there, Tay realized a few moments later that in the box there was a lottery paper that won the lottery that week with a prize of 30 million baht or around IDR 12.12 billion (1 baht = IDR 404.12). The lottery paper had also been bought by four people who then approached Tay and her mother to hold them accountable.
They were Zoe (Pat Napapa), Beat (Minnie Phatira), Wen (Jazz Chuanchuen), and Khung (Somjit Jongjohor). The four asked for accountability because they desperately needed the money from the lottery. Tay then racked his brains and devised an absurd plan using the strengths of each of them, such as thinker, locksmith, actor, and boxer.
The mission was arguably absurd because it really put them in danger. However, for the sake of the money, they then determined to carry out the mission to the mafia headquartered in a fireworks factory.
The Lost Lotteries is written and directed by director Prueksa Amaruji who previously directed Bikeman and its sequel, E-Riam Sing, and Miss Happy. The movie also features performances by First Kanaphan (The Eclipse, The Shipper), Gee Sutthirak (Real Fake, Dark App). The Lost Lotteries can be watched on Netflix.
