Synopsis of Parasyte: The Grey, Human Resistance and Mysterious Parasites
Table of Contents
Parasyte: The Grey is the latest Korean series that carries the sci-fi horror genre. The series is helmed by director Yeon Sang-ho who previously directed Train to Busan, Peninsula, and many other hit projects. The series is based on the story in Hitoshi Iwaaki's Parasyte manga and is set in the same universe as the original manga.
It all starts with mysterious spores falling from the sky, including in the Namil region of South Korea. At first, the spores looked interesting because they bounced gently on the ground like squishy toys. However, the spores suddenly sprouted tentacles and attacked the people around them. They enter right into the human brain, and create tentacle creatures that endanger other humans.
The situation prompted the Korean government to create an anti-parasite task force, The Grey. The task force is led by Choi Jun-kyung (Lee Jung-hyun) who has a cold heart after losing his favorite person. Therefore, he intends to mercilessly destroy all parasites that infect humans. Every human who has been infected he sees as a target for extermination.
In the midst of this situation, Jeong Su-in (Jeon So-nee) is in critical condition in the hospital due to a car accident. He also almost died. However, the doctor suddenly said Su-in was fine even though it didn't fully appear that way. The woman was not alone. She had actually been infected with an unknown parasite that took over the human brain.
In general, when humans are infected with the parasite, they have completely lost themselves. However, the situation is different for Su-in. The parasite actually saved her life and had a symbiosis together. The organism even spoke to her. This situation makes Su-in actually in a gray area, because she is neither fully human nor fully parasitic.
Su-in's condition is known to The Grey. Choi Jun-kyung also made Su-in his latest quarry. The drama is star-studded. In addition to Jeon So-nee, the drama also stars Koo Kyo-hwan (D.P., Monstrous), Lee Jung-hyun (Peninsula, Decision to Leave), Kwon Hae-ho (Peninsula), and Kim In-kwon (Mr. Queen).
Thus, the drama became director Yeon Sang-ho's reunion with several artists. He was previously known as the director of Train to Busan, the creator of Peninsula and Hellbound, the screenwriter of Monstrous and The Bequeathed.
