The word Sumala comes from the Javanese language meaning Sumbering Memolo or source of doom. Sumala is a horror movie directed by Rizal Mantovani and produced by Hitmaker Studio, the same production house that made Indigo (2024).

Sumala tells the story of a little girl with a physical disorder who has a very different personality at night. As she grows up, the village where she lives begins to experience a series of terrifying events, including an increasing number of missing children.

The villagers are convinced that Sumala is the culprit. The story is set in a remote village in Semarang Regency, where the name Sumala is greatly feared by the villagers.

Sumala is believed to be a figure that has existed since ancient times, long before the villagers were born. The name Sumala became a specter that turned the peace of the village into a deep fear.

The villagers were afraid to even mention Sumala's name, believing that the mere thought of it could summon him. The village elders tried various rituals to appease Sumala, but their efforts were in vain.
Sumala did not want flowers or blood offerings, but their children.
