Synopsis of Petak Umpet, Adaptation of the True Story of the Kidnapping of Wewe Gombel

Another horror film that will enliven Indonesian cinemas is the film Petak Umpet. This horror genre film is an adaptation of a true story that once went viral on Youtube known as Diculik Wewe Gombel. Paw Pictures together with Pichouse Films collaborated with Rizal Mantovani to bring the story to the big screen. According to the original story that went viral, the synopsis of the film Petak Umpet tells the story of a child who goes missing after being kidnapped by Wewe Gombel while playing hide and seek.

Rizal Mantovani is a director born on August 12, 1967, who is famous for his horror and musical films. He started his career as a video clip maker and continued to the big screen with his debut film, Kuldesak (1998). A series of Rizal Mantovani's works include Jelangkung (2001), Kuntilanak (2006-2008), Mati Suri (2009), and Mumun (2022).

He also directed the film 5 cm (2012) which successfully boosted his popularity. In the film Petak Umpet, Rizal Mantovani collaborated with Nugroho Agung, Ali Farighi, and Puji Lestari as screenwriters. Several players involved in the film Petak Umpet include Randy Martin, Saskia Chadwick, Alesha Fadillah, Adam Farrel, Jared Ali, and Putri Ayudya.

Synopsis of Petak Umpet

The film Petak Umpet by Rizal Mantovani tells a horror story inspired by the urban legend of Wewe Gombel. The story begins when a young man named Rahman (Randy Martin) is asked by his mother to look after his younger sister, Sari (Alesha Fadillah).

However, because he is busy playing online games, Rahman lets Sari play hide and seek alone. Sari then disappears after hiding in an old, uninhabited house.

When Sari was not found, Rahman felt guilty and decided to look for his sister with his two friends, Rinto (Adam Farrel) and Shila (Saskia Chadwick). They decided to enter the old house. They faced a frightening experience by facing the figure of Wewe Gombel who turned out to have kidnapped Sari.
