Produced by MVP Pictures and directed by Deni Saputra, Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro is set to hit theaters in January 2026.

The film stars Aulia Sarah, known for her roles in numerous Indonesian horror films. This time, Aulia Sarah is trusted to play the main character, Rahayu, a village woman who must deal with loss, trauma, and the dark forces that emerge on the most sacred night.

Set against the backdrop of a coastal village and deeply held traditions, Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro presents itself as a local horror film that relies on atmosphere, belief, and the fragile inner conflict of humankind when faced with fate.

Synopsis of Sengkolo: The First Suro Calamity

The film Sengkolo: The First Suro Calamity takes viewers to Sukowati Village, a seemingly peaceful, simple, and religious coastal village. Beneath its peaceful daily life, this village harbors a dark side that is slowly revealed as the eve of 1 Suro approaches.

The story focuses on Rahayu, a village midwife who lives with her husband and child. Amidst her simple life, Rahayu is awaiting the birth of her second child.

As a midwife, she is known for her close relationship with the villagers and often helps pregnant women in the village. However, this tranquility begins to be disturbed when a series of strange and terrifying events befall the pregnant women in Sukowati. Some experience mysterious disturbances, recurring nightmares, and even events that culminate in tragedy. Initially, everything is dismissed as a coincidence or a simple misfortune.

The situation changes drastically when a major tragedy strikes Rahayu's own family. This event plunges her into deep grief and persistent feelings of guilt. The loss she experiences makes Rahayu begin to question many things, including her own beliefs.

Tensions escalate when Rahayu's younger sister, Ratih, returns to the village after a long absence. Ratih's arrival marks the beginning of a series of increasingly intense, strange events. Strange noises, apparitions, and secret rituals practiced by the villagers begin to be revealed one by one. As the eve of 1 Suro approaches, the atmosphere in the village becomes tense. Old beliefs about prohibitions, taboos, and unseen forces begin to show their impact. Terror comes not only in the form of supernatural beings, but also through the residents' increasingly uncontrollable collective fear.

At the climax of the story, Rahayu is forced to confront a supernatural threat targeting her family. She must choose between drowning in loss and bravely facing the darkness for the sake of her loved ones. The eve of 1 Suro marks a turning point, not only for Rahayu, but for all the residents of Sukowati Village.

Traditional Horror with an Emotional Touch

Different from mere jump scare horror, Sengkolo: Petaka Satu Suro emphasizes silence, psychological pressure, and inner conflict. This film shows how grief, fear, and trust can open the way for dark forces to penetrate human life.

Aulia Sarah portrays Rahayu as a strong yet fragile woman. Her character faces not only supernatural terror but also a sense of loss that slowly erodes her sanity.
