The Crow (2024) Reboot Starring Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs in The Works

After three decades, The Crow is now coming to theaters with a new version. The Crow is an American superhero film adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name published in 1989, by James O'Barr. This movie will be the fifth part in The Crow series, as well as a reboot and remake of The Crow (1994). The iconic Crow character will return and be played by Bill Skarsgard, with a more modern movie concept than its predecessor. The Crow will follow the story of Eric Draven (played by Bill Skarsgard), a musician who rises from the death that has befallen him. His resurrection turns out to hold a deep and painful grudge.

It started when Eric Draven and his fiancée, Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) were brutally murdered by a group of thugs. Shelly was sexually assaulted, as well as killed with Eric. Since that incident, a mysterious crow suddenly appeared that gave Eric powers. This power allows Eric to come back to life. He was determined to get his revenge. 

To save his true love while avenging his revenge, Eric inevitably had to sacrifice himself. He is determined to take merciless revenge against their killers, crossing the world of the living and the dead to right the wrongs. The Crow movie is rumored to present a very dark revenge action story, with a gothic antihero who tracks down and kills his killers one by one. Because it is a reboot of the original version three decades ago, The Crow film is also reported to present a modern story with some changes.

The trailer released by Lionsgate shows footage of Eric Draven and Shelly Webster meeting. They meet in prison, and have a romantic relationship when they get out of prison. However, not long after, Shelly is held captive by a group of thugs, as well as Eric who tries to save his fiancée. They were both killed. Mysteriously, Eric gained strength from a crow because his soul could not rest in peace because of the bad events that happened to him. Since then, Eric has risen and turned into a figure who does not hesitate to attack those who have destroyed his life.

Brutally, Eric took his revenge on his killers. He shot and stabbed mercilessly. In contrast, Eric is not susceptible to being shot or stabbed because his body has gained strength from the crow. Wrapped with the romance between Eric and Shelly, The Crow movie will present a series of brutal and bloody revenge actions. Besides Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs, The Crow also stars Isabella Wei as Zadie, as well as Danny Huston, Laura Birn, and Jordan Bolger whose roles are still under wraps. Meanwhile, the movie is directed by Rupert Sanders and the script is written by Zach Baylin.

Although it will soon hit theaters, the filming of the rebooted version of The Crow has drawn pros and cons. Alex Proyas, director of the original film The Crow (1994), thinks that the reboot of the film is not a good idea. According to him, the presence of The Crow reboot only reminds of the bad things that happened to the making of the film three decades ago.

Brandon Lee, the actor who played the lead in The Crow (1994) died at the age of 28 on the set of the film. The son of Hollywood legend Bruce Lee was shot dead by a prop gun while filming The Crow. Eventually, the movie was completed using stunt doubles and visual effects. Meanwhile, The Crow is scheduled to hit theaters on August 23, 2024.
