Moana 2 Releases New Trailer: Coconut Monster Appears and Dwayne Johnson's Fierce Fight in Sequel Movie

Dwayne Johnson, who voices the character of Maui in Disney's animated feature Moana 2, made a big splash at the D23 event. The event, which took place from August 9-10, 2024, was also the premiere of the second Moana 2 trailer, which can also be viewed on the Walt Disney Animation Studios Youtube channel.

During D23, Disney released a new trailer for Moana 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular 2016 animated film. The trailer features new footage of Auli'i Cravalho's Moana and Dwayne Johnson's Maui, and is directed by David G. Derrick Jr. The film is set for release on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. 

Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later on an epic new voyage with an unexpected crew of sailors. When Moana receives an unexpected call from her pioneering ancestors, she must travel to the distant oceans of Oceania and the treacherous waters of a long-lost land for an unprecedented adventure.
Featuring longtime stars Rachel House (Moana's grandmother, Tara), Temuera Morrison (Moana's father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana's mother, Sheena).

Also featured on the Coming Soon page are voice actors Hualalai Chan, David Fein and Rose Matafeo as Moana's new crew members Moni, Kele and Loto. Afimai Fraser voices a mysterious new character, and Matangi Gerald Ramsay plays Tautai Vasa, Moana's ancestor. And Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda voices Moana's adorable little sister, Simea.

The first Moana was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker and was a commercial success, grossing over $600 million at the box office. It was also critically acclaimed, winning two Academy Awards, including nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
